New European Bauhaus Festival 2026 Promotes People-Centred and Sustainable Living Environments
From 9–13 June 2026, Brussels hosted the third edition of the Festival of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), bringing together communities, creators, researchers, policymakers, and innovators to explore how sustainability, inclusiveness, and high-quality design can shape Europe’s future built environment.
The 2026 Festival placed communities at the centre of the discussion, highlighting the idea that buildings and common spaces should be designed around the people who live in them. Through exhibitions, debates, workshops, and collaborative activities, participants explored how inclusive, sustainable, and high-quality living environments can foster community, strengthen resilience, and improve quality of life. Particular attention was given to Democratic Engagement and Affordable Housing, reflecting the Festival’s focus on citizen participation and inclusive communities.
These themes strongly resonated with the 18th ESEIA Lecture Series: Adaptive Reuse of Buildings and Urban Spaces, held online on 11 June 2026 during NEB Festival.
