ToFuel partners reviewed progress across the project value chain in September and are now preparing for the project’s first Local Stakeholder Workshop, taking place on 23 November 2026 in Lisbon.

On 15 September, ToFuel partners met for the project Steering Committee meeting to take stock of progress across the different work packages and coordinate the next stages of implementation.

The discussion covered activities spanning extrusion, hydrothermal liquefaction and algae; fermentation and lipid extraction; downstream processing of lipids and water management; LCA and technology assessment; scale-up and SAF upgrading; and dissemination, communication and exploitation.

Technical work is progressing across the ToFuel value chain. Seasonal tomato residues have been collected, seed-pressing results delivered, and pretreatment, HTL and algae tests are underway. Work on fermentation and lipid production is also advancing, while process simulation and LCA models are being developed to support the project’s technology assessment activities.

The meeting also supported coordination between work packages, including upcoming exchanges on feedstock, samples, process data and HTL/SAF upgrading activities.

1st Local Stakeholder Workshop

Looking ahead, ToFuel will hold its 1st Local Stakeholder Workshop on 23 November 2026 at LNEG in Lisbon, as part of the 7th ESEIA International Conference – Green Energy Solutions: Current and Future Trends.

The interactive workshop will focus on feedstock availability, biomass pretreatment and carbon utilisation pathways, with particular attention to WP2 – Upstream: Extrusion | HTL | Algae.

Participants will exchange perspectives on technical and non-technical challenges, opportunities for collaboration and recommendations to support the development of sustainable biomass conversion pathways.
