Strengthening Cooperation with ESEIA Members
As part of its ongoing Member Integration Strategy, ESEIA continued engagement with member institutions in 2025 to deepen collaboration, align strategic priorities, and expand participation in ESEIA programmes and Working Groups.
On 7 November 2025, ESEIA Director Brigitte Hasewend met with Rupert Baumgartner, Deputy Director of the Institute of Systems Sciences, Innovation and Sustainability Research (SIS) at the University of Graz (KFUG). The meeting explored opportunities to increase SIS expert involvement in ESEIA Working Groups, align contributions with ESEIA’s 2026 strategic planning, and prepare for cooperation around the TIPARDIS 2027 international R&D interchange to be held in the Graz region. With SIS’s strong profile in sustainability transitions, circular economy, and systems-science research, the partnership offers significant potential for deeper integration into ESEIA’s activities.
A few days later, on 10 November 2025, ESEIA held an integration meeting with Savonia University of Applied Sciences (Savonia UAS), FI, a highly active ESEIA member. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation for upcoming EU-funded initiatives, enhancing participation across Working Groups, and building on recent joint achievements. ESEIA Director Brigitte Hasewend provided updates on the Education and Training Programme and the 2026 call selection, while Jarno Ruusunen, R&D Manager, presented current R&I activities from Savonia’s Machinery and Energy Department. The meeting also reflected on the success of the 6th ESEIA International Conference 2024, hosted by Savonia in Kuopio, and discussed preparing an exchange with LNEG, PT, host of the next conference.
ESEIA continued its Member Integration activities with an online meeting with Karelia University of Applied Sciences (Karelia UAS) on 15 December 2025, focusing on ongoing cooperation and future collaboration opportunities. Participants from Karelia UAS included Petri Raivo, President, together with Liisa Timonen, Simo Paukkunen, and Ville Kuittinen. ESEIA was represented by Brigitte Hasewend, Director of ESEIA, and Martin Kriegl, Project Assistant.
An additional Member Integration meeting with TU Dublin is scheduled for 18 December 2025. The exchange will continue discussions on ESEIA’s current activities, Working Group engagement, and opportunities for future collaboration, in line with ESEIA’s broader Member Integration objectives.
Together, these meetings highlight ESEIA’s commitment to supporting members, fostering expert participation, and strengthening collaboration across the Alliance to advance sustainable energy innovation.
