In an opening ceremony and symposium held in Graz, 4 April, the Karl Franzens University of Graz KFUG celebrated the opening of a new Christian Doppler laboratory for products following the circular economy.

The core company partners ARA and ipoint stressed the importance of cooperation with KFUG Head of the CD lab Rupert Baumgartner whose steep career was exemplary of the fruitful connection between research, education, business, and public service. As stressed by the Styrian Minister for Research Barbara Eibinger-Miedl, the Region of Styria with its high research quota of more than 5% GDP investment and half the competence centers based in Styria help create the environment for innovation to flourish.

Some 80 participants from all over Europe listened to the keynote by Karl-Henrik Robèrt Blekinge from the Institute of Technology of Sweden on sustainable redesign. The CD lab will develop methods and concepts to collect data on products and services from the supply chain for the environmental and social evaluation and design of products and services, as well as for further applications.
