Are you looking for the latest news from ESEIA? Check out the Spring 2024 edition of our quarterly newsletter.

From organisational change and new partnerships to groundbreaking projects and insightful lectures, this edition brings insight into everything we have been working on over the past few months.

  • We elected a new President and welcomed two new members to the Governing Council (GC): After 12 years of exceptional leadership, Harald Kainz‘s term as ESEIA President concluded on 20 March 2024. The ESEIA General Assembly (GA) elected Brian Norton, who has served as ESEIA Vice-President and Treasurer, as his successor for a three-year mandate. In addition, the ESEIA GA appointed the ESEIA Vice-President Josef Fürlinger as the new ESEIA Treasurer and welcomed new members to the GC: Andrea Höglinger, Vice-Rector for Research at TU Graz, and Goran Krajačić, Professor at UNIZAG FSB. We also welcomed the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland (UASB) as the newest member of the Alliance. Learn more about our organisational structure here.
  • We discussed the next EU Framework Programme for R&I (FP10) and presented our Position Paper: In addition to a guest presentation on The Future Design of the R&I Funding Framework in view of FP10 delivered by Claudia Siegel from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation during the 30th ESEIA GA held 14 March 2024, we presented the FP10 Position Paper, advocating for an enhanced role of European Alliances in FP10. The ESEIA FP10 Position Paper is the result of the survey conducted by the ESEIA Team from November 2023 to January 2024 among the ESEIA experts and is expected to be published soon. Learn more about the ESEIA FP10 Position Paper here.
  • We are committed to driving progress towards a climate-neutral future: While ESEIA is enhancing its partnerships to advance sustainable development in Africa and empower the higher education landscape in Europe through ongoing EU-funded projects EMERGE and INITIATE, the five ESEIA Working Groups (WGs) are committed to supporting the green energy transition through innovative project proposals with impactful outcomes. At the same time, TU Graz offered a platform to present and discuss current challenges and opportunities in the energy sector (18th Energy Innovation Symposium), and TH Köln and BAV completed a pilot project on circular value creation from residual materials (Bergische Rohstoffschmiede).
  • We invite you to mark your calendars for the upcoming ESEIA Lecture Series events: We look forward to welcoming new guest speakers and discussing climate-neutral solutions at our free hybrid lectures: Advanced Tools for Planning and Management of Climate Neutral Buildings, 18 April 2024, and How to Ensure Sustainable Land-use while enhancing Renewable Energy Production in Europe, 23 May 2024. Check out the details and register to attend!
