As we look at the accomplishments, projects and activities of the past three months, it is clear that ESEIA and its members are more committed than ever to remaining at the forefront of innovation and driving meaningful change. Here are some of the key highlights you will find in this edition.

  • We are involving our members in a 10-year future fast-forward exercise: While preparing the Work Programme for the coming year, we are also engaging in an extended strategic planning that spans all the way to 2034 so we can collectively identify projects and strengthen collaboration within the Horizon Europe programme for research and innovation run by the European Commission until 2027, but also the next EU Framework Programme 10 (FP10), spanning from 2028 to 2034. Additionally, September 2023 proved to be a busy month for the ESEIA Working Groups, who have successfully submitted four proposals for funding under Horizon Europe.
  • We are about to start two new EU-funded projects: Coordinated by the University of Zagreb – Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (UNIZAG FSB), the EMERGE and INITIATE projects secured funding under Horizon Europe and will start on 1 December 2023 and 1 February 2024, respectively. We are enlarging our team and getting ready to support the coordinator in the two projects expected to contribute significantly to propelling sustainable development in Africa and empowering the higher education landscape in Europe.   • We held two more successful ESEIA Lecture Series events: The sixth and seventh events in our hybrid lecture series took place on 21 September 2023, featuring an expert discussion on bio-based products and defossilisation of industry and mobility. Review the highlights here, and join us on 16 November 2023 to explore the topic of ‘Smart Integration of Sustainable Mobility Solutions for Urban Areas’.
