University of Zagreb Co-Organises 18th Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems

The 18th Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems (SDEWES), organised by the University of Zagreb (UNIZAG) in cooperation with other partner organisations, was held 24-29 September 2023 in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Dedicated to promoting multidisciplinary approaches to sustainable development, the SDEWES Conference has affirmed itself as a platform for communication and exchange of ideas between experts from around the world on sustainability methods, policies and technologies.

This year’s edition featured plenary lectures, poster sessions, panel discussions and side events on topics ranging from renewable energies and energy efficiency technologies for industrial applications, transportation and infrastructures to promoting women in energy research, offering a comprehensive overview of the challenges and opportunities in sustainable development.

During the 18th SDEWES Conference, the ESEIA Vice-President and Head of Energy Research at Tyndall National Institute Brian Norton delivered a lecture on ‘Strategies for Decarbonisation of Buildings’, shedding light on how to reduce the GHG emissions from buildings in Europe to nearly-zero and, at the same time, develop and produce new products and services that create high-quality jobs.

The 19th SDEWES Conference will be held 8-12 September 2024 in Rome, Italy. You can find more information about this year’s edition here.
