ToFuel Kick-Off Meeting

ToFuel Project Officially Launched with Kick-off Meeting in Graz, AT

The Horizon Europe project ToFuel officially launched with its kick-off meeting held on 3–4 February 2026 in Graz, Austria, hosted by TU Graz. The project aims to develop an integrated biorefinery concept to convert tomato processing residues into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and valuable bio-based products, contributing to the decarbonisation of the aviation sector and the circular use of agricultural biomass.

During the first year, research activities will focus on the fractionation of tomato residues and other biomass streams using hydrothermal liquefaction and extrusion technologies, combined with microbial fermentation processes to produce lipids as key intermediates for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Within the project, ESEIA will coordinate dissemination, communication, and stakeholder engagement activities, supporting the visibility of the project and facilitating collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

The project has a total budget of €3.49 million, a duration of 48 months, and an implementation period from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2029. ESEIA Members involved in the project include: ESEIA (AT), TU Graz (AT), UZagreb PBF (HR), LNEG (PT), TU Vienna (AT).
