REPORT ON Cafe Europa, Regional event Open Days 2013 of the EU. The Europa Cafe took place on Friday 11th of October 2013, 10h00-11h00 at the Medienzentrum Steiermark. Michael Narodoslawsky gave an overview of the Green Heart of Styria project in order to raise public awareness on the optimal land use in Styria. He also promoted eseia International Workshop for European Regional Actors on “Regional Cooperation on Rational Use of Bioresources”, taking place the 28th of November 2013 in Brussels, from 11h00 to 13h00. REPORT on the International Workshop on Rational Use of Bioresources, organised on November 28, 2013 in Brussels. eseia held the International Workshop for European Regional Actors on the topic of the Regional Cooperation on Rational Use of Bioresources. In this context, the first draft of the eseia Bioresource Discourse Book was presented.The International Workshop was aimed at raising awareness among European regions about optimal land use by discussing bioenergy usage scenarios and their effects on the environment, public health and food safety, and reflecting on the role of energy regions in making forward-looking decisions for land use.
Karin Kadenbach, Member of the European Parliament, Kimmo Järvinen from the European Sawmilling Association (EOS), and Michael Narodoslawsky from, TU Graz, Austria have inspired the workshop.
REPORT on eseia – IGS Conference, 24-25 April 2014, UTwente, “Smart and Green Transitions in Cities and Regions”. The conference brought together experts, academics and practitioners from a wide range of disciplines to discuss options and strategies for smart and green innovations in cities and regions. The aim was to link scientific research and practical implementation and to consider and compare transition strategies based on smart and green innovations in cities and regions. The conference embraced a multidisciplinary perspective, with a focus on governance and energy transition. It was organised along two tracks in parallel to the two working groups of eseia:
- Track1: The bioresource transition in regions
- Track2: The smart energy system transition in cities and regions
In the context of this conference, the new eseia Bioresource Discourse Book and the Policy Brief was presented.
The project period 1.7.2013 -31.12.2014 came to an end with two forum events, one local event with stakeholders, mainly farmers and an expert event.
REPORT on the Green Heart Bioresources ‘Boden’ Forum, hosted by the Styrian Agricultural Chamber in Deutsch-Goritz, Styria, Austria, 27 November 2014. The “Bio-Resource Soil Forum” addressed farmers and farm organisations in one of the most intensively used farm regions of the country. The discussions highlighted the urgency of more research into sustainable use of harvesting residues with regard to maintaining soil fertility. Newspaper Article from woche.at
REPORT on the Green Heart Bioresource Expert Forum hosted by the Energy Agency Styria in Graz, Austria, 15 December 2014. The “Green Heart Bio-resource Expert Forum” convened experts in the field of sustainable energy and energy efficiency as well as regional energy agencies. The discussions at this forum centred around the possible applications of the model developed in the project to concrete regional contexts in Styria.
