SURE2022: Looking Back on a Week of Learning and Networking for a Sustainable Future

We are thrilled to announce that the International Summer School on Sustainable Materials for Renewable Energy Applications (SURE2022), organised by ESEIA and EPNOE, was a success!

This in-person event took place 11-15 July at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) in Barcelona, Spain, bringing together around 25 students and 13 lecturers from all over the world.

SURE2022 offered a unique opportunity for young researchers to learn from experts who spoke on subjects that range from decarbonisation technologies to how one can build their own business successfully.

“The curriculum is very well designed and compact, both informative and challenging in a short period of time,” said one of the participants. “It has given me many ideas, and now I have a panoramic perspective about what I would like to do during my career as a researcher,” added another.

In addition to scientific lectures, the programme included other learning and networking activities, allowing the participants to connect with their peers through Speed Science Dating Networking and challenge themselves by developing and presenting projects on circular economy and sustainability. The two best student projects received awards sponsored by the Nanomaterials journal and the TAB Batteries company.

SURE2022 also included a guided tour to ALBA Synchrotron, a third-generation Synchrotron Light facility.
