Announcing the 18th ESEIA Lecture Series: Adaptive Reuse of Buildings and Urban Spaces
ESEIA and TU Graz invite you to the 18th edition of the ESEIA Lecture Series, dedicated to one of the most pressing topics at the intersection of architecture, sustainability, and urban transformation: Adaptive Reuse of Buildings and Urban Spaces, taking place online on 11 June 2026, 19:00–21:00 CET.
About the Lecture
Adaptive reuse has emerged as one of the most effective strategies for meeting climate targets, driving social transformation, and preserving the cultural identity of European cities. Rather than demolishing and rebuilding, adaptive reuse unlocks new ecological, social, and architectural value from existing structures and underused urban spaces while significantly reducing demolition waste and embodied carbon.
Framed through the values of the New European Bauhaus, sustainability, inclusiveness, and beauty, this lecture will reflect on the opportunities and limitations of adaptive reuse, drawing on both strategic frameworks and real-world examples from across Europe.
