Moving towards a climate and nature-positive economy goes beyond the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. It requires replacing carbon-intense products like plastics, concrete, or synthetic textiles with sustainable alternatives. In this context, bio-based products derived from materials of biological origins, such as crops, biological waste, and residues, can play a crucial role in contributing to EU objectives of sustainable growth. Despite being already used in a wide range of applications and areas, the full potential of these products remains largely untapped. The ESEIA Round Table will bring together representatives from policy, academia and industry to assess the current state of European circular bioeconomy. The panel will review EU policy on bio-based products, explore research advancements and showcase best practices from diverse sectors. By facilitating the exchange of views on the progress made so far among different stakeholders, we aim to foster a comprehensive understanding of what is needed to accelerate innovation and market uptake of bio-based products.
