2024 Climate Crisis Conference in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East: A Collaborative Initiative

Following two highly successful Climate Conferences in 2018 and 2021 that resulted in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Climate Change Initiative (EMME-CCI), The Cyprus Institute, ESEIA member, has partnered with the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts to co-organize the 2024 iteration, Climate Crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.

Building on the success of the 2018 and 2021 Climate Conferences, which resulted in the establishment of the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Climate Change Initiative (EMME-CCI), The Cyprus Institute has partnered with the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts to co-organize the 2024 conference titled “Climate Crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.”

This international conference aims to engage a wide range of key stakeholders, including scientists, academicians, policymakers, as well as political and civic leaders. The conference will focus on the scientific foundations of the climate crisis, with a particular emphasis on the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East—recognized as one of the world’s most critical climate change “hot spots.” The agenda will cover climate projections, and strategies for mitigation and adaptation will be discussed, alongside the financial, legal, and moral dimensions of these efforts.

The event will be held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, H.E. Dr. Nicos Christodoulides, further highlighting its significance in addressing the region’s pressing climate challenges.
