Highlights of the EU Parliament’s 9th Legislature First Session in Strasbourg

The 9th legislature of the European Parliament has officially begun with the new Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) elected and David-Maria Sassoli has been elected European Parliament President. The Parliament decided on the composition of 22 committees and subcommittees, including the Industry, Research and Energy ITRE responsible for the adoption of reports related to energy transition issues which are relevant for the work of eseia and our Member Organisations.

ITRE European Parliament Committee also conducts consultations with experts from all over the energy value chain, involving directly eseia and its extended network of energy experts. ITRE will held its constitutive meeting the 10 July 2019 in Brussels, Belgium, to elect the new Chair and the four Vice-Chairs of the Committee as well as to announce next meetings.

Finally, in the Parliament there are seven political groups represented from the 190 political parties across the 28 EU Member States. 61 percent of the MEPs are new to the chamber, including more women than ever before.
