Member News | Tyndall National Institute Achieves National Certification for Energy Efficiency Excellence
ESEIA member Tyndall National Institute, Ireland’s leading research and technology organisation based in Cork, has achieved a significant sustainability recognition, earning the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland’s (SEAI) Excellence in Energy Efficient Design (EXEED) Certification for continued leadership in energy management.
The certification marks the culmination of six years of substantial investment in critical utility infrastructure upgrades supporting the operation of Tyndall’s advanced laboratories and cleanrooms. The initiative is expected to reduce the institute’s annual energy consumption by 21% and cut carbon emissions by 1,101 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent each year.
This milestone reflects Tyndall’s long-standing commitment to best-practice energy management, strengthened by the launch of its decarbonisation programme in 2023. By adopting the EXEED process, the institute prioritised reducing energy demand before implementing low-carbon technologies, a strategy that has delivered significant results.
Tyndall’s achievement illustrates how research institutions can lead by example in sustainable energy management, translating operational efficiency into measurable climate action. This aligns closely with ESEIA’s mission to advance innovation and sustainability across Europe’s energy ecosystem.
