ToFuel Website

ToFuel Project Website Goes Live | ESEIA Leads Communication and Dissemination

The ToFuel project has officially launched its website at www.tofuel-project.eu, marking a key milestone in the project’s opening months. ESEIA as leading the communication and dissemination activities has been centrally involved in bringing this first major communication output to life.

ToFuel is a Horizon Europe-funded project (Grant Agreement No. 101235233) coordinated by TU Graz, AT. Running from January 2026 to December 2029, it brings together 11 partner organisations from 7 European countries to develop an integrated biorefinery concept that transforms tomato production residues into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and valuable co-products contributing to aviation decarbonisation and the circular bioeconomy.

The new website is the project’s primary public-facing hub. It covers the scientific challenge at the heart of ToFuel, the five core technologies under development biomass fractionation, microbial lipid production, algae-based carbon capture, lipid purification via the HEFA route, and closed-loop water management as well as the full consortium, latest news, and deliverables. All technologies are being demonstrated at TRL 5, with a view to future industrial scale-up.

The scale of the opportunity is significant. The EU will need around 3.2 million tonnes of SAF by 2030. ToFuel’s approach, converting tomato pomace, a largely underutilised agricultural waste stream, could contribute up to 0.3 million tonnes toward that target.

Within the consortium, ESEIA leads Work Package 7, Dissemination, Communication, and Exploitation, and holds task lead responsibilities for T7.1 Communication and Dissemination Activities and T7.3 Stakeholder Engagement. This means ESEIA is responsible for ensuring the project’s work reaches the right audiences throughout the project lifecycle from technical and scientific communities to policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the wider public.

The website launch is the first in a series of communication milestones ESEIA will be coordinating across the four-year project.
